A systematic review and meta‐analysis of impact of baseline thrombocytopenia on cardiovascular outcomes and mortality in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions May 17, 2021
Ahsan MJ, Lateef N, Latif A, et al. - Via a meta‐analysis, researchers assessed how baseline thrombocytopenia (bTP) influences cardiovascular outcomes in patients receiving percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). They explored PubMed, Embase, Cochrane library and clinicaltrials.gov. Patients were split into two categories: those with (a) no thrombocytopenia (b) bTP prior to PCI. In‐hospital, and all‐cause mortality rates at the longest follow‐up were assessed as the primary endpoints. This analysis involved 6,51,543 patients from 10 retrospective studies. At the longest follow‐up, bTP group was found to have elevated incidence of all‐cause mortality and bleeding, while in terms of post‐PCI MI, major adverse cardiovascular outcomes and TVR, there were no significant differences between both groups. Findings in patients receiving PCI demonstrated a link of bTP with increased mortality as well as revealed bTP as a predictor of bleeding risk.
