A randomized study to improve care for young women with breast cancer at community and academic medical oncology practices in the United States: The Young and Strong study
Cancer Mar 19, 2019
Partridge AH, et al. - Via conducting a cluster randomized study, researchers examined how an exportable educational intervention for young women with breast cancer (YWI) can influence care. They randomized sites 1:1 to the YWI or a contact time control physical activity intervention (PAI) stratified by academic or community site. Between July 2012 and December 2013, they enrolled a total of 467 patients across 54 sites. Outcomes revealed no differences in attention to fertility with the intervention to improve care for women with breast cancer despite higher attention to fertility than expected in both groups and improved emotional health in the YWI group. Comprehensive care for this population may improve with providing greater attention to young women with breast cancer in general.
