A prognostic score for the resolution of bacteremia by Gram-negative bacteria resistant to carbapenems
European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases Aug 12, 2018
Giamarellos-Bourboulis EJ, et al. - Using a test and a validation cohort, researchers developed a prognostic score of bacteremia resolution. They measured 5 protein biomarkers in serial daily serum samples from the test cohort of 39 patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacteria (CRGNB) bacteremia. They designed receiver operator characteristic curves to assess cut-off of over-time changes that were associated with more than 80% specificity for resolution of bacteremia. In a cohort of 24 patients mostly with primary bacteremia by carbapenem-resistant enterobacteria (CRE), they validated the developed score. As per outcomes, resolution of bacteremia by CRGNB was highly predicted by using the developed score.
