A prediction model of surgical site infection after instrumented thoracolumbar spine surgery in adults
European Spine Journal Jan 10, 2019
Janssen DMC, et al. - Using a large cohort of a Western European academic center, authors studied 898 subjects to elaborate a multivariable model for appropriate prognostication of surgical site infection (SSI) after instrumented spine surgery. They expressed a model in which an individual’s risk of an SSI could be calculated. They observed age, body mass index, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score, degenerative or revision surgery, and NSAID use, to be the independent predictor variables for the chances of SSI after instrumented thoracolumbar spine surgery. This model was suggested beneficial in the assessment of individualized case risk with better patient-specific counseling and stimulating the implementation of multi-disciplinary policies for reducing SSI.
