A one-year risk score to predict all-cause mortality in hypertensive inpatients
European Journal of Internal Medicine Jul 19, 2018
Martínez-Díaz AM, et al. - In this cohort study, the researchers constructed and internally validated a scoring system to determine the probability of death in hypertensive inpatients. Participants in the study were 302 hypertensive patients hospitalized between 2015 and 2017 in Spain. For hypertensive inpatients, a points system was developed to determine the one-year mortality risk including the prognostic variables of gender, Charlson Comorbidity Index, personal care and daily activities. They found that this system was very simple to use and had been internally validated. To improve their prognosis and quality of life, patients with a higher risk of mortality could be monitored more closely. Study findings suggested that the system must be externally validated to be applied in other geographic areas.
