A new landmark for measuring tibial component rotation after total knee arthroplasty
The Knee Mar 30, 2019
Mahmood FF, et al. - Investigators researched over 211 computed tomography (CT) scans to establish a new landmark for evaluating tibial component rotation after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). They identified a new landmark of a flat area on the lateral cortex of the tibia inferior to the tibial component on all scans. Using the protocol, they measured the median tibial component rotation of 0.0° ± 5.4° while using Berger's protocol, they calculated −9.2° ± 5.5°. They reported good inter-observer reliability and excellent intra-observer reliability with the new method (ICCs of 0.899 and 0.871). They suggested the new landmark with a very high prevalence. Therefore, it could be used to define a tibial component rotation.
