A new bladder-emptying method in females with neurogenic bladder: A randomized, phase II trial
Neurourology and Urodynamics Jun 11, 2019
Calisto FCFC, et al. - Among 177 females with neurogenic bladder, researchers assessed the performance of the new device vs clean intermittent catheterization (CIC). The study sample consisted of patients who were admitted to the urologic outpatient clinic from March 2015 to March 2018. Participants in the study were randomized into 2 groups (experimental group [GI]-ISRD vs control group [GII]-CIC). In the ISRD group, a significant improvement in the quality of life analysis was found. According to findings, the ISRD group provided a significant reduction (two episodes after ISRD use) on the number of UTIs and diaper use and a significant improvement on bladder capacity (80 mL of the average improvement) and compliance. For adequate emptying of the neurogenic bladder in female patients, the new device has shown to be a safe and promising alternative.
