A fall within 3 months before total joint arthroplasty is associated with adverse outcomes in elderly patients
Journal of Arthroplasty Oct 22, 2020
Chaudhry YP, Puvanesarajah V, Oni JK, et al. - This study was undertaken to evaluate the correlations between preoperative fall history and hospital readmission rates and discharge disposition after primary total joint arthroplasty (TJA). Between 2014–2018, researchers investigated the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program Geriatric Pilot Project for cases of primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) (n = 3,671) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) (n = 6,194) conducted for individuals aged ≥ 65 years. For patients aged ≥ 65 years, falls within 3 months before primary TJA is correlated with SCF discharge and readmission. In the preoperative assessment, fall history screening should be enrolled.
