A biomechanical comparison of six suture configurations for soft tissue-based graft traction and fixation
Arthroscopy Mar 17, 2019
Barber FA, et al. - data were estimated to study 6 different graft fixation techniques for calculation of preparation speed, fixation security, biomechanical strength, and resultant tissue trauma. They recorded the representative graft preparation time for 6 techniques: OrthoCord Krackow (247s), FiberWire Krackow (401s), FiberLoop (177s), SpeedTrap (42s), WhipKnot (39s), and Loop-in-loop (45s). They also noted the maximum failure loads as OrthoCord Krackow (364 ± 24N), FiberWire Krackow (375 ± 45N), FiberLoop (413 ± 95N), SpeedTrap (437 ± 65N), WhipKnot (153 ± 42N), and Loop-in-loop (329 ± 112N). They observed suture breaking, the most frequent failure mode. They concluded SpeedTrap, WhipKnot, and Loop-in-loop instantaneous to create (under 1 minute) whereas SpeedTrap and Krackow had the least displacement. They found the SpeedTrap (437N) and FiberLoop (413N) with the highest ultimate strength.
